How do I use the encryption feature?

The integral file encryption software provided by Caveo™ Anti-Theft is called CaveoCrypt™. It is derived from components created by Paul Le Roux pleroux@softwareprofessionals.com and encryption software by Eric Young eay@cryptsoft.com.
CaveoCrypt™ is simple to install and use. It creates a volume on your hard disk, which appears as a separate drive. To encrypt files and folders, you simply store them on this "virtual" drive.

Enabling encryption
You can enable encryption at initial Setup or later. To do so later, go to Change Settings and click on the Encryption tab.

Installation and Setup

1.At the Setup dialog, check the default drive selection to make sure this is the directory where you want the encryption program to be placed. (This is not where your encrypted files will be placed -- that comes later.) Browse and choose another drive if you wish. Read the license agreement and click Install. (Leave the other boxes checked.)
2.Click Yes when prompted to create program folder.
3. When the dialog indicates that the install has been successful, click OK and then OK again at the dialog about rebooting.
4.Click on Exit.
5.If you are running Windows 98 or Millennium, you will need to reboot before the next steps. It is not necessary to reboot on Windows 2000 or XP.

Creating and Mounting a Volume

1. Go to Start/Programs/CaveoCrypt™ and click on Create Volume.
2.Pick Volume Location: Browse to any location where you want to place your encrypted folders and files. Type in a name for the encrypted volume. (Remember this location and file name for later.) Click Open, then Next.
3. Set Encryption Options: Click Next.
4. Specify Volume Size: Type in the disk space you wish to reserve for your encrypted files (e.g. 100MB). Click Next
5. Choose Password. You may, if you wish, set a password for access to the encrypted volume. If you set a password, you will be prompted to enter it each time you start up or log on.
6. Create Volume: Click on Finish at any time and wait until the volume is created. Click OK when prompted.
7. Go to Start/Programs/CaveoCrypt/Mount Volume. Check the two boxes "Cache in driver" and "Reconnect at logon." Choose a drive letter for your encrypted volume. Browse to the file you created in Step b above, and click Open. Type in your password (if you set one) and click Mount. A virtual drive is now created. Everything saved to it will be encrypted.
Note: If access to the encrypted drive is desired for other users, each must log in and complete Step 7 (Mount Volume). Other users who need separate encrypted drives can also create and mount separate volumes with different passwords.

Using CaveoCrypt™
Each time you start up (or log on as a new user) you will be prompted for your CaveoCrypt™ password, if one has been set. The virtual drive will appear as a "Removable Disk" or "Local Disk" with the drive letter you chose.

You can save new files in this drive (or move previously created files), and they will be protected.
